Middleton Place is an old-style Southern plantation just south of Charleston that's been restored to its old grandeur of the mid-1800s. The plantation was very large, with ornate grounds featuring ponds, many different flowers and plants, giant oaks and old buildings. We even saw a crocodile.
In this photo, Sandi and Allie demonstrate a courting bench at Middleton Place. Back in the day, a man and woman would sit on opposite sides, and slowly rock the bench until they ended up in the middle touching hands. Presumably by that time had elapsed, Dad was checking up, shotgun in hand.
